We were much younger when the momentous 1968 event of the Inauguration of Auroville took place. Those who were there were deeply marked by the event and over the past 52 years, so many of us have helped Auroville grow, supporting The Mother’s great vision of the City of Dawn and the goal of implanting “the consciousness of the One” in the soil of the Earth. The founding of Auroville took place with the endorsement of UNESCO and numerous countries in the world, thanks in part to the reach of Indian spirituality. Auroville has been welcomed and nourished in India and, in turn, Auroville nourishes the Indian renaissance. Five new consolidating plots have joined Auroville in tha past two months near the Visitors Centre and in the Greenbelt, bringing the total to 63 plots (58 acres) purchased since Acres for Auroville started!! We thank all the land donors who have made these vital purchases possible!

In 1910, Sri Aurobindo found safe refuge in Pondicherry , initiating a series of events that have impacted the world consciousness and its future. We are happy to provide historical narrative of how and under what circumstances Sri Aurobindo moved to Pondicherry.
April is the Victory month for Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, with decades of significant April events, starting with Sri Aurobindo’s arrival to a safe haven in Pondicherry on April 4th 1910. This year, April 24th marks the 100th anniversary of The Mother’s final arrival back in India for her collaboration with Sri Aurobindo. Peacocks, the sign of success, were seen both in front of Sri Aurobindo’s statue and on The Mother’s balcony.
Auroville has been developing new paradigms of society based on alternative, spiritual, and progressive ideals. Now, in a special study and dissertation, The City of Dawn is recognized for “its exceptional combination of longevity, size, scope of activity, recognition, aims and experimental ethos”. What are the ideals and values that impel its development?
