Frederick first came to India in 1959 when he was 20 and met The Mother, a “life-changing experience”. In 1966, he settled in the Ashram, surrendering himself and all his material belongings. He began working for Auroville’s inauguration and at The Mother’s request, he built the community’s first permanent house. One of the original pioneers, he shares what The Mother personally told him about the deep importance of the land for the City of Dawn.

AUROIMAGE- in collaboration with A4A – has created a new video clip “Solidarity for the Land of Auroville” with music by Nadaka, available in English and in French. It is another inspiring addition to our rich collection of multi-language original films about the City of Dawn, and the land that is designated for it.

In this special month, the “harmonious collective aspiration” that The Mother spoke of was very much in evidence with a series of solidarity events FOR A CAUSE – the harmonious manifestation of Auroville. Auroville, the universal township, was founded as a dedicated place for Sri Aurobindo’s great vision to take root and unfold. The steps in the chain all took place in February – The Mother’s birth, the City of Dawn’s Inauguration, and between them, the landmark event of February 29th, 1956.

The ideals of “constant progress” and “a living embodiment of an actual human unity” in the charter of Auroville are most fully understood in the context of the landmark event of February 29th, 1956. Our quest for a unified base of Auroville is to provide a cohesive ground for Auroville’s ideals to become realised facts.

This year’s New Year’s card 2020 is a hommage to the deep vision behind Auroville, with the inspired artwork of the Matrimandir’s Garden of Power by Auroville artist Emanuele Scanziani, and the painting the Mother named “Heralds of the Supramental World” painted by Promode Kumar on the night of 29 February 1956. On this November 24th we commemorate the 83rd anniversary of a great evolutionary victory in the life of Sri Aurobindo, a milestone that paved laid the roots for the establishment of Auroville. In honor of this special date, we present many aspects of Auroville’s 51 years, focusing on the values of constant progress and a “youth that never ages” as enshrined in its Charter.

Since its start, over 1000 babies have been born in Auroville.
Today, there are the children of the children of the first pioneers – a third generation carrying on the beautiful torch of Auroville!
These children have the privilege of imbibing the atmosphere of the great vision and ideals of Auroville.
Obviously, Auroville is here to stay!
