Five new consolidating plots have joined Auroville in tha past two months near the Visitors Centre and in the Greenbelt, bringing the total to 63 plots (58 acres) purchased since Acres for Auroville started!! We thank all the land donors who have made these vital purchases possible!

July 1st was Thiru Mahalingam’s 100th birthday and we pay tribute to his rich life as an Independence fighter, spiritual seeker, teacher, translator, Ashramite, and Aurovilian. And in 2014, it was Mahalingam who inaugurated the launch of the A4A campaign. We honor Mahalingam with a bouquet of articles, films, photos, and a radio interview that were made about his life.
Auroville attracts people of all horizons, backgrounds and ages, and each year many decide to stay to build their lives in Auroville, contribute to its flowering and become today’s « pioneers ». In 1910, Sri Aurobindo found safe refuge in Pondicherry, initiating a series of events that have impacted the world consciousness. The Mother came to India and met him in 1914 at the top of these steps, with her final return for their spiritual collaboration on April 24, 1920, one hundred years ago this month.

Frederick first came to India in 1959 when he was 20 and met The Mother, a “life-changing experience”. In 1966, he settled in the Ashram, surrendering himself and all his material belongings. He began working for Auroville’s inauguration and at The Mother’s request, he built the community’s first permanent house. One of the original pioneers, he shares what The Mother personally told him about the deep importance of the land for the City of Dawn.
Since its start, Auroville has been a magnet for the youth of the villages around. Many have joined the project to become talented actors in Auroville life. Poovizhi, born in Edayanchavadi on Auroville’s birthday in 1996, has decided to join Auroville. In her interview with Rakhal of the YUCCA Newcomer Program, we see the close links of the past 50 years, and the inspiring role Auroville has played for so many village youth.
