Anchored in Matter, Auroville is non-separable from its land. Today, securing Auroville’s still-missing land is the urgent need. Since we can all see this need around us, we must all unite and act! As Sri Aurobindo wrote: “If you merely wait for things to happen, there is no reason why they should happen at all”
February is a special month for Auroville and for the new creation upon earth. It was in this month, on the 21st in 1878, that the Mother was born; in this month, on the 29th in 1956, the universal descent of the supramental force took place; and again in this month, on the 28th in 1968, Auroville was founded.

These words of the Mother are relevant for us all – for those of us who live in Auroville, or are associated from a distance. Collaboration is built on
essential pillars, of which Gratitude is one – gratitude for being able to serve a vision that leads to a better and nobler life for all.
November 24th 1926 was the date of Sri Aurobindo’s great siddhi or realization, opening the gates to a greater, spiritualized consciousness for Humanity and the promise of Spirit and Matter in harmony. Auroville is the designated place for pioneering Sri Aurobindo’s great vision, flowering step-by-inspiring step. But one step is still needed – completing its material body with urgently-needed land.
On April 24, 1920, the Mother arrived in Pondicherry to join Sri Aurobindo. For the next 30 years, the “united two” collaborated for the establishment of a new Consciousness for humanity and the Earth. The Mother then inaugurated Auroville to anchor this new spiritual Force in Matter and through land. As she declared: “There should be somewhere upon earth a place …”

Auroville began with Sri Aurobindo’s great vision, the Mother’s dream, and with land! The earth of 124 nations and regions of India were put together into the urn along with the Auroville Charter. Auroville was born in a concrete act of intention, hope, and new promise! For the Mother, Matter was the vital substance in which she placed her force and Auroville’s land was the house she intended for the new Force and Consciousness so ‘that Heaven might native grow on mortal soil’…
Auroville’s success in ecology, afforestation and organic farming, is one of the most visible signs to the world of its progress and evolution. For decades, greenworkers expected that coexistence and collaboration through projects with the village landowners who farmed the traditional ecological way would create an eco-zone regardless of ownership.
Auroville is here to pave the way for the final victory of Sri Aurobindo – in the Mother’s words, the victory of all that is “good and great and compassionate and Divine”. Hence, a consolidated and unified physical base for Auroville means a consolidated and unified field of action for implanting Sri Aurobindo’s uplifting vision for humanity. This is the aspiration of the A4A campaign. Join us as we kick off our enlarged PHASE 3 action on the 15th of August for the City of Dawn’s missing land!
