LFAU LETTER – 24 NOVEMBER 2023

Auroville plays a key role in giving a concrete form to Sri Aurobindo’s great vision of a new world, new humanity, and new society expressing and embodying a new consciousness. It is “a collective ideal that calls for a collective effort so that it may be realised in the terms of an integral human perfection.…” For the past 10 years, the Acres for Auroville land campaign has played a dynamic part in helping manifest this vision with the goal of raising funds to complete the Township’s designated physical base. LOUIS – MOTHER’S ALWAYS OPTIMISTIC BUILDER

Louis came to Auroville from France in 1971 to briefly deliver spare parts for the vehicles of the mythic « Caravan”. Instead he stayed on, participating in the development of Auropolyester and the digging and building of Matrimandir from the start to the end. A close associate and friend of Roger Anger, over the decades, Louis has played a major role in constructing Auroville’s most important residential and service buildings. He says “I would like to tell those who read this testimony about my JOY for being at Auroville and for constructing The Mother’s City. This joy has never left me.” We are happy to present Louis’s story in English and in French.

INSPIRING QUOTES -TWO TEXTS BY SRI AUROBINDO

Sri Aurobindo wrote extensively on his vision of human evolution, the destiny of humankind, and of our role in a growing spirituality and change for the Earth. Here we share two of his seminal essays : “The Hour of God” and “Man, a Transitional Being”. Written at the start of the 20th century, these texts retain their full relevance: “Man’s greatness is not in what he is, but in what he makes possible.” and especially in today’s times “… it is the hour of the unexpected.”

In the first chapter of “The Life Divine, Sri Aurobindo wrote: “The earliest preoccupation of man … is also the highest which his thought can envisage. LFAU LETTER – 15 AUGUST 2023

For those who have accepted Sri Aurobindo’s “gospel of life”, 15th August is a day full of deep meaning and relevance – individually and collectively. To the question of the best way to celebrate this special day, Sri Aurobindo wrote : “Every day should be regarded as a day when a descent may take place or a contact established with the higher consciousness.” So each day is an opportunity for cultivating greater openness and aspiration, for advancing on the sunlit path of the future.
