Dear friend of Auroville’s bright future,
Greetings from the LFAU – A4A team,
We are happy to share our quarterly newsletter on the auspicious day of 24 November 24 – a landmark date – for it was on this day in 1926 that Sri Aurobindo announced a decisive, historic progress in his Integral Yoga.
Once again, our newsletter shares the human stories behind Auroville’s development – stories of ideals, devotion and commitment – and the ongoing creativity coming from Auroville. They justify for us our non-stop fundraising for the completion and consolidation of Auroville’s physical base – the world’s first material site dedicated to developing the new society and consciousness that Sri Aurobindo foresaw.
In this issue we present the life stories of two Auroville pioneers: the second part of Paulette’s rich history, followed by Aryamani’s inspiring story – both multi-faceted researchers and creators whose many beautiful contributions and ideals have enriched Auroville and us all. These moving accounts of Auroville’s growth, and theirs, are followed by news from our support action, Art for Land, and an invitation to have your land contributions doubled by donating in December via AVI-USA. We conclude with words of explanation from The Mother that put the many current crises into perspective.
Soon you will be receiving our annual New Year’s card – again, an Auroville sharing of beauty and aspiration.
An invitation : Our collection of Auroville pioneer and newcomer stories published in our newsletters since the start of Acres for Auroville has become quite a small treasure over the years. Accordingly, we intend to compile all these stories and publish them in book form. We therefore also invite you to share your life story (which also includes your Auroville story) with us! If you’re interested, please write us at lfau@auroville.org.in and we’ll send you some guidelines to help you draft your story.

The Matrimandir is designed to receive and transmit light. Light for The Mother was “the symbol of future realisations.” and connecting with light was essential: “There is only one recourse, it is to unite ourselves as perfectly as we can with the highest and purest light we can conceive of.” And along with light, love was capital for The Mother: “To live in Love, by Love, for Love, indissolubly united to The highest manifestation.” And when speaking about Auroville in particular, she said “A wide movement of love is the only possible concrete for ‘building something else’”. In correspondence with a disciple, Sri Aurobindo spoke of the secret for harmony in human nature and human life, « the harmony that can be brought out of the human nature in spite of its present imperfection when one gives it the true touch, that is, puts it under the true psychic influence.” In “To Be a True Aurovilian”, the Mother referred to this: “The first thing needed is the inner discovery, to find out what one truly is behind social, moral, cultural, racial and hereditary appearances. 3. Paulette – The Avatar’s Circle – Part Two
After living and working with the Sri Aurobindo Ashram’s sadhaks, in 1985 Paulette moved to Auroville with her 4 year-old daughter and worked at the ‘stars’ on the Matrimandir’s roof. Successively, under the Laboratory of Evolution / Centre for Human Unity, Paulette became involved in Integral Yoga research and publication of archival documents from the Mother’s years. After fourteen years as a pioneer in Anusuya, in the Greenbelt, Paulette moved to Vikas, the first ecological community in the residential zone, supervising for three months the construction of its major building. Her many research papers, articles, books and exhibitions are dedicated to the manifestation of “the Avatar’s model town”: for “within is without”. https://land.auroville.org/
4. Aryamani – A Soul’s Journey
Aryamani was born in a cacao plantation in the forests of Brazil. At Bahia University, she met the dance teacher Rolf Gelewsky who introduced her to Sri Aurobindo’s teachings, a life-changing event. After years of dance, study and contribution to expand the Integral Yoga in Brazil, she left for India and the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. In 1979, she moved to Auroville with her partner Luigi, where they founded the Transformation community. Aryamani has been an Auroville teacher, and as a director, has creatively staged Sri Aurobindo’s plays, passages from Savitri and Indian sacred scriptures, and most recently an original work “To Her”, on The Mother. She is the translator into Portuguese of “The Life Divine” The Synthesis of Yoga and “Essays on the Gita”. https://land.auroville.org/
5. AVI USA’s December Matching Donation Campaign
Did you know that every December, AVI USA doubles your donations to Acres for Auroville? When you donate to A4A via AVI USA in December, your donation will be matched, and A4A will get double the money! This great possibility applies to all donors and all donations, coming from any country and in any currency. As there’s a limit of $2500 total that can be matched, it’s best to give quickly in order to have your donation doubled !! 6: Art for Land – Unity, Kindness, Friendship – The Exhibition is Still On!
For this year’s August Art for Land Exhibition at the Unity Pavilion – “Unity, Kindness, Friendship” – the title came as a strong call ! This still-ongoing August AFL exhibition showcases Auroville artists together with Ashram-associated artists as well as friends of Auroville and the Ashram. The exhibiting artists in their generosity, aspiration, and inspiration took up the theme and its depth emerged, clearly speaking of the Unity within which is there and has to be made conscious in all of us. All the works can be viewed and purchased at the Unity Pavilion, and also online at the artforland website https://artforland.in/ The proceeds go for Auroville’s Master Plan consolidation and land protection. https://land.auroville.org/
