In 1909, C.R. Dass predicted what would be the legacy of Sri Aurobindo before “the High Court of History”: “Long after he is dead and gone he will be looked upon as the lover of humanity. Long after he is dead and gone, his words will be echoed and re-echoed not only in India but across distant seas and lands.” These particular words of Sri Aurobindo resound deeply in the conditions we face today:

“We believe in the constant progression of humanity…The salvation of the human race lies in a more sane and integral development of the possibilities of mankind in the individual and in the community.…

What then shall be our ideal? Unity for the human race by an inner oneness … the resurgence of man out of the merely animal and economic life … the pouring of the power of the spirit into the physical mould and mental instrument.”

Sri Aurobindo’s legacy of vision and wisdom inspires us all towards new heights of human possibility and hope. And it is the energy behind the creation of the Auroville International Township – meant as the site for the foundation stones of this great collective ideal and practical new effort.
