Positive news from Acres for Auroville
In February 2019, the special 50th anniversary year came to a happy close and Auroville’s 51st year began. To celebrate this landmark turning point, Acres for Auroville is proud to showcase examples of the courage it has taken to plant and grow the seeds of the universal township, The City of Dawn.
Building an international community dedicated to a new vision for humanity’s future calls for vision and courage! To salute the special 51st year, the A4A fundraisers have created a New Year’s card for 2019 with photos of Auroville’s very moving 50th year’s Water Ceremony and the texts of Sri Aurobindo & The Mother which outline the bases of the Vision. To receive a card (or several cards for friends or for creating your own land fundraising events), please write us at lfau@auroville.org.in
We celebrate the courage and creativity of those early pioneers with a special first-person report by Bryan Walton on the bare beginnings of the community of Fraternity. The photos of the original barren land – including a rare shot of a then-typical sandstorm – are a vibrant testimonial to belief in the future and to endurance!
It took courage to build the Matrimandir – how many shovels of labor, chains of concrete pails, and golden disks it needed!
The Acres for Auroville flyer salutes this landmark construction that is “the soul of Auroville” – and we salute those who tend it. Several times in a month the Matrimandir disk-cleaners go into action, hanging sideways or upside down suspended in space to keep the disks in shape and glowing. We are happy to share Aurovilian Paulette’s photo album of the Matrimandir’s “acrobats” – past and present. See the heart-stopping photos of this special service and dedication done with joy!
Land is the physical base for every one of Auroville’s inspiring creations. The Matrimandir could not have been built without its piece of land and it is the same for every aspect of manifesting the City of Dawn. We sincerely appreciate the donations which have enabled the purchase of 52 previously-missing acres of land in the Master Plan area over the past four years – and we warmly invite your continued support.
