Auroville is not just any place on the planet – it is a consecrated space for the growth of a truer consciousness. For 50 years, starting with barren soil, Auroville has created beauty where before there was none. Much of Auroville’s designated land – the material base for this work and beauty – is missing and at risk of being bought and used for private profit. The future of many missing plots is now up to us – together, we can make a difference!

In this landmark month of Febrary 2018, we remember the great vision and events behind the creation of Auroville 50 years ago this month. The Mother emphasized land as The City of Dawn’s essential material support in its role for a new world consciousness.

This month marks two highly significant dates – the 50th anniversary of Auroville’s inauguration as The City of Dawn and the 140th anniversary of The Mother’s birth. These events are not separate – Auroville is the manifestation of The Mother’s vision and work. Here is her vision for Auroville and for the advent of a new world.

Now turning 50 this February, Auroville is blooming. Its once-barren land is a green and creative testimony to the years of dedication, hope, hard work, and collaboration! All of these impressive achievements are built upon – and depend on – the City of Dawn’s land!

The story of Auroville can be understood as 5 decades of trial and effort for “the growth of light” and “the struggle towards better things”. Starting with a scarcity of resources of any kind, today we see a healthy, multi-pronged international community striving for a sunlit vision of the future.

Seventy years ago, Sri Aurobindo wrote a message that was broadcast on All India Radio for India’s Independence. He wrote of his long-cherished dreams, two of which relate to the Auroville vision. Auroville exists to incarnate these 2 dreams, and Acres for Auroville exists to provide the land!

India’s Parliament approved The Mother’s vision for the City of Dawn, but it’s up to us to make that vision a reality.

April 24th marks the Mother’s final arrival in India in 1920 to join Sri Aurobindo in Puducherry and “the united two began a greater age”.
Auroville, envisioned as The City of Dawn, is one outcome of that collaboration – and a vehicle to manifest “a greater age”.

Thanks to your donations to the ‘Acres for Auroville’ campaign, another new strategic plot in the Greenbelt was just purchased in March!
Since January alone, A4A donations have financed four new plots of vital Master Plan land, making 8 plots total so far – all thanks to your solidarity!
