21 NEW PLOTS IN NOVEMBER & DECEMBER

We are happy to announce the good news of a recent big increase in Auroville’s land!
In just the months of November and December 2023, 21 new plots totalling 19.5 acres
were acquired for consolidating Auroville’s Master Plan area via purchase and exchange.
Added to the plots we already announced earlier in the year, this brings the total of previously-missing land that was added to Auroville in 2023 to a total of 29 plots and 26.02 new acres – a record increase for land consolidation.
The November-December new plots are located in:
the City in these 10 central areas: Matrimandir, Vikas, Certitude, Arka, Crown Road, Yantra, Transformation, Dana, Shraddhanjalia, and the AuroOceanic Hotel
the Greenbelt in these 6 green and farming centers: Baraka (formerly Fertile Windmill), Pitchandikulam, Siddhartha Farm, Meenati, Alipsa Farm, and Kalpavruksha Farm
This progress is the result of the work of the Land Board – and of the direct involvement of the Auroville Foundation office which is committed to accelerating the acquisition of the still-missing plots needed to consolidate the Township’s Master Plan area.
Over the years, Auroville has acquired land through both purchase and exchange. Exchange is seen as the only solution when the price for an important consolidating plot is too high or when the owner of a key plot is open only to an exchange. Such exchanges are normally acres-positive for Auroville although they may unfortunately include a monetary loss – and involve the use of plots from outlying areas, technically outside the Master Plan as shown on Auroville’s map. In this case the land came from AuroOrchard and Djaima, a very regretted loss, but one that the Foundation Office considered necessary for gaining vital land located in more central parts of the Township in exchange.
Land prices continue to rise exponentially, and so time is of the essence for acquiring
Auroville’s still-missing Master Plan area plots.
