The Acres for Auroville land campaign was launched on August 15, 2014 with the goal of raising the funds to secure, consolidate, and protect the unified and harmonious land base that The Mother envisaged for the City of Dawn.
A4A‘s collaborative unity action has inspired thousands of donations for this most essential need – the land for manifesting the Auroville dream ! As we start A4A’s Year 12, we are gratified to announce our positive results to date – all thanks to your support:
187.14 new acres have joined Auroville’s designated Master Plan area
In the City, new acres have joined Auroville at
these 21 central & strategic areas:
THESE NEW CITY ACRES HAVE:
– consolidated an important part of Mahalakshmi Park, creating a direct pathway to Matrimandir from the Surrender-Grace-Arka area,
– provided the needed plot for the new Matrimandir Reception area and Pavilion.
– along the Vikas radial, given the space for an innovative solution for the Residential Zone’s water and sewage treatment needs, serving eight communities and 450 inhabitants
– near Reve, enabled the creation of the Kriya youth community – which provides housing for Newcomer and Aurovilian youth and and families,
– added land with infrastructure and a borewell to the International Zone, enlarging this area dedicated to peace and human unity,
In the Greenbelt, new acres have been added to
20 farms, forest areas & nature preserves :
THESE NEW GREENBELT ACRES HAVE:
– increased forest areas and the ability for afforestation work, and eco-research
– enabled greater protection for wildlife in Auroville’s nature preserves, particularly in the NFA and at Pitchandikulam
– enlarged farming centers such as at Siddhartha Farm and Kalpavruksha, strengthening Auroville’s agriculture and its food production
– added plots with water and other sustainability resources, such as at the 13.5 new acres at Irumbai Lake
– provided road access and strategic consolidation in several Greenbelt areas
We thank all the donors from Auroville, in India, around the world, and from the Sri
Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry and Delhi.
We express our appreciation to the Aurovilian units that have dedicated their proceeds
for the land,
and our sincere gratitude to all the artists who have donated their works to raise funds for
A4A via the Art for Land action.
A4A is the ONLY funding resource for Auroville’s land consolidation and
protection for these vital needs :
- development and protection of a unified City center, enabling coherent growth, needed infrastructure, and the creation of facilities for culture, education, and promotion of global peace & understanding,
- land for protecting the green sanctuary of Auroville strengthening water resources & food production, sustainable eco-systems for human life and wildlife, and for environmental projects & training that benefit the bio-region.
In A4A’s Year 12 we continue on with commitment
to ensure Auroville’s viable future and to provide the space for the
manifestation of its spiritual goal!
