During more than 40 years I have had the privilege to observe the development of Auroville’s ecologic evolution. I arrived May 21, 1972 early morning after a hectic night in the bus from Bangalore. I walked in bliss in a red desert and I felt coming home. But where did I come? I was looking for Ruud Lohman, whose book about Auroville had inspired me. I found him in a big hole, the foundation of Matrimandir.
We are all more or less aware of the urgent priority to acquire the remaining land located in the master plan area to complete the physical basis for AV. But funds for purchase are limited. For this reason priority categories have been made to select land which is offered for sale. Beside sunlight, air and water, food is a component, which we can’t categorize as a 2nd priority for our needs to keep the body alive. At present the whole world including Tamil Nadu drifts towards a general food availability crisis.
The first target of A4A’s action had been to raise funds for missing plots in the Matrimandir Area and the International Zone. By the end of the first year, the campaign has achieved two major successes.
