1. THIS SPECIAL MONTH OF FEBRUARY 2020
Auroville was founded as a dedicated place for Sri Aurobindo’s evolutionary vision to take root and
unfold within the framework of a futuristic universal township. The steps in the chain all took place in February – The Mother’s birth, Auroville’s inauguration, and the landmark event of February 29th,
1956. This is when, according to the Mother’s experience, the supramental Truth consciousness
became operative on earth.
We invite you to read our letter and flier about this event and its connection with the Mother’s founding of Auroville.
The “harmonious collective aspiration” that The Mother spoke of was very much in evidence in the beginning of this new year 2020 with a series of solidarity events FOR A CAUSE – the harmonious manifestation of Auroville.
2. BEAUTY FOR A CAUSE: ART FOR LAND 2020
On January 11th, the Hon. Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Dr. Kiran Bedi, graciously inaugurated the 5th annual Art for Land Exhibition at the Unity Pavilion. Over 90 artists donated their works for sale to raise funds for Auroville’s unified and harmonious land base. This multimedia collection includes a remarkable photograph “Sunrise and Reflection” taken by Lt. Governor Dr. Bedi. You can have the glimpse of all the art work here. A film of this special event was made by a fellow Aurovilian Serena Aurora for Outreach Media. It can be viewed here.
In addition to the main Unity Pavilion exhibition, solidarity exhibitions were also held this year in
Puducherry (Tasmai Gallery, Aurodhan Gallery & The Promenade Hotel) and in Auroville (the Tibetan Pavilion, Centre d’Art and Savitri Bhavan).
We thank the Unity Pavilion team, AV Arts, all the artists, the galleries, and the presenters of the many excellent solidarity fundraising events for the intensity and quality of their work.
3. RUN FOR A CAUSE: AUROVILLE MARATHON 2020
This year, Acres for Auroville in association with the 13 th Auroville Marathon invited runners to be
sponsored by friends and colleagues to RUN FOR THE LAND. We thank all the runners and sponsors, the many Marathon Market participants and the 13 th Auroville Marathon team for their support and generosity!
See our new campaign page for being a participant or sponsoring a runner the next time!
4. AUROVILLE PIONEER – GERARD OF AURO ORCHARD
AuroOrchard is Auroville’s oldest farm that was started by Gérard at the instance of The Mother 50 years ago. We sincerely thank Gérard for the privilege of this memoir that he especially consented to share as a support for the Acres for Auroville land campaign, and we thank Jasmin for recording and compiling Gérard’s memories of his very special adventure and service for the City of Dawn.
5. AUROVILLE’S BABY NEWCOMERS (Part 2)
In our Part 2 of AV babies and the midwives who accompany their arrival, we are happy to present the work of midwife Paula of the Morning Star birthing project. Paula has been doing natural deliveries at homes in Auroville and at Santé since 2015, and co-leads the team along with Krishna. Here we share Paula’s ideals and dreams, and the dedicated work of the Morning Star team.
6. INSPIRATION: “THE SUPRAMENTAL MANIFESTATION ON EARTH”
What is the significance of The Mother’s experience of February 29 th 1956 and what does it herald?
This excerpt from Sri Aurobindo’s writing is a helpful and inspiring description of the place of and
possibilities of the Supramental action. He starts with these words “…we do not look straight at the
whole truth of the world as it is and draw from it the right conclusion…”
7. Our 2020 New Year’s Card
We hope all our friends and supporters received our 2020 News Year’s card featuring the art work of Aurovilian Emanuele Scanziani on the cover. If you didn’t receive your card, please contact us at

8. Otto Releasing the Card
When Aravinda, the designer of our 2020 New Year card, brought the delivery of the first consignment from the press to our office, it was a moment of joyful accomplishment for us. We took the first box to Otto, a long-term Aurovilian from Austria, a gifted actor, and one of the executives of the Financial Service andmade an impromptu request for him to release the card – and he readily agreed! Thank you Otto, and we express our gratefulness to Aravinda for his important collaboration!
9. Recent A4A Articles & Interviews
To learn more about our action for Auroville’s harmonious consolidation, you can read our recent A4A Update article in Auroville Today on the concrete results achieved on the land purchased thanks to your donations … and listen to our 2 Auroville Radio interviews recorded in September & December.
We thank all the many friends who are bringing their solidarity for the City of Dawn, creating a dynamic space for the ideal of human unity to flourish and grow – a hope for us all !
Thank you for joining your hands of collaboration!
In solidarity and trust in Auroville’s bright future,
