Art for Land is now starting its 6th year of sharing Auroville’s great artistic talent and bringing solidarity for Auroville’s land via A4A. With the support of AV Art Service, the enlarged Art for Land team is full of dynamism, skills, and fresh ideas – plus the new AFL Boutique at Unity Pavilion is opening soon. We were much younger when the momentous 1968 event of the Inauguration of Auroville took place. Those who were there were deeply marked by the event and over the past 52 years, so many of us have helped Auroville grow, supporting The Mother’s great vision of the City of Dawn and the goal of implanting “the consciousness of the One” in the soil of the Earth. The founding of Auroville took place with the endorsement of UNESCO and numerous countries in the world, thanks in part to the reach of Indian spirituality. Auroville has been welcomed and nourished in India and, in turn, Auroville nourishes the Indian renaissance. For A4A, completing Auroville’s physical base supports both Human Unity and the Indian Renaissance. (English, French, and Tamil versions)
Five new consolidating plots have joined Auroville in tha past two months near the Visitors Centre and in the Greenbelt, bringing the total to 63 plots (58 acres) purchased since Acres for Auroville started!! We thank all the land donors who have made these vital purchases possible!
April has historically been a very special month – and despite today’s appearances even, a Victory month. Over the decades, April has held the special events at the foundation of Auroville. April is the Victory month for Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, with decades of significant April events, starting with Sri Aurobindo’s arrival to a safe haven in Pondicherry on April 4th 1910. This year, April 24th marks the 100th anniversary of The Mother’s final arrival back in India for her collaboration with Sri Aurobindo. Peacocks, the sign of success, were seen both in front of Sri Aurobindo’s statue and on The Mother’s balcony.
Auroville has been developing new paradigms of society based on alternative, spiritual, and progressive ideals. Now, in a special study and dissertation, The City of Dawn is recognized for “its exceptional combination of longevity, size, scope of activity, recognition, aims and experimental ethos”. Frederick first came to India in 1959 when he was 20 and met The Mother, a “life-changing experience”. In 1966, he settled in the Ashram, surrendering himself and all his material belongings. He began working for Auroville’s inauguration and at The Mother’s request, he built the community’s first permanent house. One of the original pioneers, he shares what The Mother personally told him about the deep importance of the land for the City of Dawn.
AUROIMAGE- in collaboration with A4A – has created a new video clip “Solidarity for the Land of Auroville” with music by Nadaka, available in English and in French. It is another inspiring addition to our rich collection of multi-language original films about the City of Dawn, and the land that is designated for it.
