The Mother
People come from everywhere to be in Auroville – a place created to manifest the ideal of human unity. However, the unity we all seek is not automatic, and is often hard-won. Each of us is meant to be a unique manifestation of the One, meaning we are all different and experience things differently. Plus inside us are layers of consciousness to discover and live, and unconsciousness to resolve. So we don’t always have unity and harmony even within ourselves. Yet, there are times (as in the New Year’s photo above) when we achieve a deep, uplifting oneness and harmony within us and all together.
Here are some of The Mother’s instructive messages and guidelines on the harmony that leads to unity:
There is a deep and true consciousness in which all can meet in love and harmony….Good will for all and good will from all is the basis of peace and harmony.
Surely we must always want peace and harmony and work for it as much as we can – but for that, the best field of action is always within ourselves…. Look for the inner causes of disharmony much more than the outer ones. It is the inside which governs the outside.”
Each one must rise to the summit of his consciousness: it is on the heights that harmony is created. You must rise so high in your consciousness that it dominates the opposition. This is the solution.
Harmony: let us strive that the day may come when this will be the means and the end!
Auroville is a field for this aspiration for unity and harmony… and as much as Auroville can realize this high, difficult goal, Auroville – as the City of Dawn – will be an example and a benediction for the world!
