In this landmark month of Febrary 2018, we remember the great vision and events behind the creation of Auroville 50 years ago this month. The Mother emphasized land as The City of Dawn’s essential material support in its role for a new world consciousness.
This month marks two highly significant dates – the 50th anniversary of Auroville’s inauguration as The City of Dawn and the 140th anniversary of The Mother’s birth. These events are not separate – Auroville is the manifestation of The Mother’s vision and work. Here is her vision for Auroville and for the advent of a new world.
“There should be somewhere upon earth” – and somewhere means land. We thank the over 600 land donors for the 46 new plots of AV land that were added in the last 3 years!
“Art for Land” is ending its third season with a Gala Closing Event and Fundraising Dinner for the land – featuring a visual presentation on “The Mother as an Artist” plus Sitar and Rock & Blues concerts – presided over by Auroville Foundation Secretary Mohan Chunkath!

Unity Pavilion is privileged to host the 3rd Art for Land exhibition & land fundraiser. Over 70 artists from around the world have generously donated their works to raise funds for Auroville’s missing land – visitors make a land donation and receive an artwork as a gift.
