ANDRE – STILL SHINING AFTER 54 AUROVILIAN YEARS!

Auroville’s pioneers came from around the world to build the City of Dawn. Several have been filmed, sharing the life-changing inspiration they received from The Mother. Here, we share the recollections of André Hababou of his landmark 1968 meeting with The Mother, which provided the inspiration and energy for his over 50 years of contributions for Auroville. With photos of André at work over the decades.

JAGAN – BORN & BRED IN AUROVILLE

Jagan is 22 and was “born and bred” in Auroville. His family has been connected with the City of Dawn for 3 generations now, and his parents became Aurovilians in 1980. In this article, Jagan describes the rich elements of his growing-up – from education to sports to spiritual influences – and his contributions to the community via the “Let’s Talk Trash” ecology action, with NESS School students, and his work at Unity Pavilion for “Art for Land”.

EIGHT SPIRITUAL SONNETS BY SRI AUROBINDO

For our August 15th 2022 newsletter, we are pleased to present a selection of eight of Sri Aurobindo’s best-known spiritual sonnets. The sonnets treat a variety of spiritual subjects and experiences with a great depth and precision of description and a parallel beauty of language. Together these elements make reading each sonnet a memorable and life-accompanying experience. The Mother’s 1935 sketch of Sri Aurobindo completes the selection.

A4A FLIER – 24th APRIL 2022

Auroville is the progressive creation of a place “where all human beings of goodwill who have a sincere aspiration could live freely as citizens of the world”. The Mother observed that “the earth is certainly not ready to realize such an ideal.“ Yet, she said, “this dream is on the way of becoming a reality.” For what we do have is aspiration – individual and collective – with its power to overcome all opposition and difficulties. LFAU LETTER – 24th APRIL 2022

Today, 102 years ago, a vastly significant event took place from the perspective of the creation of a new world, and a new India – the Mother’s permanent return to Pondicherry. A line from Savitri sums it up: “The united two begun a greater age.” The reference, of course, is to the collaboration between the Mother and Sri Aurobindo that followed her final arrival and went on for the next 30 years. THREE NEW PLOTS OF MASTER PLAN LAND – ALL THANKS TO YOUR SOLIDARITY !

The year 2022 began with the good news of the purchase of 3 new plots of Master Plan land located in Auroville’s Greenbelt! Two of the new plots are located in the Pitchandikulam community nature reserve and one new plot is near Fertile – all three were purchased thanks to land donations. Warm appreciation for these happy events goes to the Land Board, the LFAU team, the many donors, and the land owners who chose to sell their land to Auroville to support the flowering of the City of Dawn!

A GRATEFUL BEING – BY B (WILLIAM SULLIVAN)

After discovering Sri Aurobindo, B settled in Auroville in 1974. A non-stop builder of the “inner and outer Auroville” for over 48 years, he’s collaborated on the creation of the Matrimandir structure and Nursery, Verité, the CSR, the International Zone, and Zero Waste Auroville. With humor, B takes us on a review of Auroville’s highs and lows. “To live in Auroville, I knew I had to change inside … to build Auroville as a state of consciousness in myself.”
