On April 24, 1920, the Mother arrived in Pondicherry to join Sri Aurobindo. For the next 30 years, the “united two” collaborated for the establishment of a new Consciousness for humanity and the Earth. The Mother then inaugurated Auroville to anchor this new spiritual Force in Matter and through land. As she declared: “There should be somewhere upon earth a place …”
“The true spirit of Auroville is collaboration and must be more and more so. True collaboration paves the way to divinity.” These words of the Mother are relevant for us all – for those of us who live in Auroville, or are associated from a distance. Collaboration is built on essential pillars, of which Gratitude is one – gratitude for being able to serve a vision that leads to a better and nobler life for all.
The September issue of Auroville Today features the August 15th ceremony that inaugurated A4A Phase 3, GreenAcres Year 2, and the second phase of the Art for Land action. Aurovilians Inge and Alan represented different generations of the Auroville community.

The GreenAcres campaign aims at securing 20 plots crucial for the immediate future of the Auroville’s Greenbelt. One year of the campaign now makes a first acquisition possible – but this can be but a beginning step! Today, 60% of the Greenbelt surrounding the City Area – and protecting it – still needs to be purchased. Join us to get this precious land now!
GreenAcres started off just a year ago as a campaign for 20 priority plots in the Greenbelt. We are happy to announce that a tiny bit more of Auroville will manifest with the donations which have come in! This update is meant to encourage all of Auroville’s friends to promote GreenAcres with their green contacts in India and abroad to develop support for Auroville’s ecological work from like-minded organizations and potential donors!
The first AV Barefoot Run took place through the greenery of Auroville on Sunday April 17th with 55 runners – Aurovilians, volunteers, Ashramites, friends from Pondicherry and Chennai and even from Tirupati! The 10-kilometer route wound through Auroville’s forests, with proceeds going to the GreenAcres campaign for more land purchase and greening of Auroville’s land.
