Land Regeneration

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Since the summer of 2014, I have been focusing on setting in place the framework for the work to come by establishing the various management zones on the land. After the fence was erected, the bore-well dug, the solar panels and pump installed and the water-tank and store-room built, considerable planting work has been done in both the sanctuary and the managed forest zones. About three thousand forest species were planted during two monsoons, and a vegetable garden inspired by natural farming principles created on about a quarter acre. The nursery has almost reached its full size, with several germination beds and hundreds of trees and shrubs in bags waiting to be planted.  Numerous trips to the Eastern Ghats as well as to temple groves have yielded seeds from various forest species, some of which are new to Auroville’s young forests.
The enormous work has only just begun, but the foundations appear to be propitious for a healthy future.
